D'Oh! A Deer! Police In Bergen County Saved Trapped Animal

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — D'oh! A deer got stuck in a well in Bergen County on Monday, but first responders were able to save it.

Just before 11:30 a.m., said Police Captain Chris Kurschner, the Fire Department asked police to respond to the 600 block of Maitland Avenue.

A deer was stuck in a ground window well, Kurschner said.

The Fire Department was able to remove the deer by 11:46 a.m. It was then released.

It's not uncommon for a deer to be trapped in a well.

Back in December, Bergen County Animal Control responded to a report of two deer at the bottom of a deep window well on a construction site.

Animal Control Officer Nancy Ulrich and construction workers used equipment to remove the two large bucks, the agency said.

One of the deer died by the time officers arrived. The other was able to run away.

"The area was fenced," Animal Control said in a social media post. "Deer are able to jump fences and ... were probably chasing each other without regard to safety."
