Teaneck First Responders Get $128K Federal Grant

BREAKING: The Department of Homeland Security awarded the grant to the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

TEANECK, NJ — The township ambulance corps has been awarded a $128,000 federal grant.

Congressmen Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) and Bill Pascrell (NJ-9) announced the U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarding the grant Thursday. The township is located in both the 5th and 9th congressional districts.

“This grant will help the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps better serve our community and keep our families healthy and safe,” Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin said in a statement.

The grants allow emergency personnel to purchase or upgrade equipment and vehicles and provide training to their members.

“This grant funding will enable the brave men and women of the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps to better protect its residents," Pascrell said. "I'm proud to see the program I began is continuing to deliver to the cities and towns that need it most."

Gottheimer said it brings much-needed tax dollars back into North Jersey.

"For too long, North Jersey has sent our hard-earned resources to Washington and seen very little in return for our federal tax dollars, so I am proud to announce this investment in the safety of our first responders right here in Teaneck,” said Gottheimer, who noted that his district only receives back 33 cents for every tax dollar sent to Washington. “This grant is a step in the right direction to close that gap and will help keep our first responders safe as they put themselves in harm's’ way to protect the health and safety of our families and communities.”
