Teaneck Hit-And-Run Driver Turns Himself In: Police

The man turned himself into police about 30 minutes after the hit-and-run, authorities said.

TEANECK, NJ — A township man turned himself into police after a hit-and-run crash on Teaneck Road late Tuesday night, police said.

Barrett Lewis was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury and endangering an injured victim, said Chief Glenn M. O'Reilly.

Police got a 911 call at 11:13 p.m. about a man being struck on Teaneck Road near Bedford Avenue. Officers found the 48-year-old victim unconscious, O'Reilly said.

At 11:45 p.m. Lewis turned himself into police at headquarters. Police took his vehicle and processed it for evidence, O'Reilly said.

The victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center by the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Because the victim's injuries were so severe, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigation Squad and the county sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
