Teaneck Schools Go Remote For First Marking Period

The district announced it will implement an all virtual learning model from September until at least November.

TEANECK, NJ — In-person learning will have to wait until at least the second marking period in Teaneck, the district announced.

The Board of Education approved Superintendent Christopher Irving's recommendation to submit a revised "Return to School Plan", in which Teaneck will submit a plan for all virtual learning.

According to Irving, this will only last through the end of the first marking period in November, and the district will begin to reassess their "go-forward" plan starting in October.

Virtual instruction comes at a cost to some parents and guardians, and the district acknowledges this.

"We know we have many parents who are not able to work from home and will struggle with childcare needs during and after the school day. I assure you that we are working on a plan to offer options for our parents," said Irving.

A survey was due by Tuesday, Aug. 18 for parents to inform the district if they needed childcare assistance.

Further communication between the district and parents will take place next week during a town hall with school principals and the special education department.

The meetings, scheduled via Zoom, will happen at the following days and times:
