Teaneck Woman Charged For Hitting Child In Face With Object: Prosecutors

A Teaneck woman was charged with simple assault after hitting a child in the face, requiring medical care, Bergen County Prosecutors said.

TEANECK, NJ — A 45-year-old Teaneck woman has been charged with simple assault, weapons possession, and endangering the welfare of a child after an alleged incident of child abuse, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Katherine Pastor was charged on Friday with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and simple assault, a disorderly persons offense, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday.

On Friday, the Teaneck Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit "regarding an alleged incident of child abuse," prosecutors said.

They added, "The alleged child abuse was reported to have occurred while a juvenile was under the care of Katherine Pastor."

Prosecutors said that an investigation determined that while a child was under Pastor's care, she "struck the juvenile about the face, utilizing an object, causing injuries requiring immediate medical attention."

Pastor was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, prosecutors said.
