Manchester Township police Monday evening said the smoke could be smelled throughout most of the township, and at times it was so thick that it was reducing visibility on Route 539 between Route 70 in Manchester and Route 72 in Barnegat, the Ocean County Sheriff’s office said.
Monmouth County residents also reported smelling the smoke late Monday night, as it drifted northeast at that point. Tuesday morning, the smell of smoke was strong throughout much of Ocean County.
