101 Ocean County Coronavirus Deaths: State Officials
The county has nearly 3,000 positive cases of the coronavirus, health officials said.
TOMS RIVER, NJ — Less than a month after the first case of the new coronavirus was confirmed in Ocean County, the county's death toll from the virus passed 100 fatalities, state health officials said Wednesday.
The county now has 2,846 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the Ocean County Health Department, which released updated figures Wednesday evening. There are cases of the virus in all but two towns: Harvey Cedars and Mantoloking.
Statewide there were 47,437 positive tests for COVID-19, and 1,504 people have died from it, according to Wednesday's update from the state health department.

Ocean County has been testing people with symptoms at Ocean County College for more than a week. There were 448 tests administerd in the first three days the site was open. It has increased testing appointments to more than 200 per day this week, health department officials said.

The first case was reported in Ocean County on March 13, and the first county resident who died was reported on March 19. Ten days later, on March 29, authorities reported 680 cases in the county and 10 deaths.
As of Wednesday, the number is 101 deaths, according to the state health department. Officials at every level of government continue to urge residents to practice social distancing, with parks, beaches and boardwalks closed in much of the county. The Ocean County sheriff's office has repeatedly urged residents to follow social distancing and is urging the use of face coverings as well.
