12th Annual Phil Citta Fundraiser Set For Wednesday In Toms River

The fundraiser supports various aspects of the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at Community Medical Center.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The 12th annual Phil Citta Memorial Fundraiser for the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at Community Medical Center is scheduled for Wednesday night at the Office Lounge.

The event, which begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday and runs until 2 a.m., honors the memory of Citta, the former owner of the Office Lounge and a longtime supporter and benefactor in Toms River. Citta died in 2004 after a battle with pancreatic cancer; his family donated $1 million to create the cancer center at the hospital.

The annual fundraiser helps to fund various items at the center, including a vehicle used to transport patients in need to and from treatments at the center. Two years ago, the Inspiration Boutique, a specialty center for cancer patients undergoing treatments, was opened. It provides cancer patients with access to a large variety of wig styles and hats/caps, free of charge. Patients may also participate in reiki therapy and other complementary therapies, also at no cost, according to the hospital.
