2nd Shooting In 2 Days In Toms River Prompts Extra Police Patrols

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River police are adding patrols as authorities investigate a shooting that happened Tuesday night on Washington Street, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

"We are allocating all of our resources to root out the individuals responsible for this brazen lawlessness," Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. "This behavior will not be tolerated."

Tuesday's incident happened about 11:30 p.m. Billhimer did not provide specifics of where on Washington Street the gunshots were reported, but said there were no reported injuries.

The shooting comes two days after a Bayville man was critically injured when someone fired shots into a vehicle as it was leaving the Toms River Apartments on Main Street on Sunday evening. Javon Cutler, 19, was shot in the head and was listed in critical condition. Authorities did not have an update on his condition Wednesday.

Billhimer would not comment on the investgation, including whether there is a link between the two shootings.

"I can tell you the detectives are working around the clock to bring the individuals responsible to justice," Billhimer said.

"The Toms River Police Department is providing extra patrols and is committed to the safety of our residents," Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little said.

The prosecutor's office Major Crime Unit, Toms River police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit are investigating.
