9/11 Firefighter Who Survived Rubble Speaking In Toms River

Joe Torrillo will tell the story of how he survived the collapse of the World Trade Center will speak about his experience.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A retired FDNY lieutenant who survived the World Trade Center collapse will speak at the Ocean County Library on Thursday evening.

Joe Torrillo will be sharing his story, describing in detail the events of Sept. 11, 2001, of how he survived and his struggles through physical rehabilitation and coming to grips with survivor’s guilt.

"He realizes now that God spared him for a later mission in life," a news release on his appearance at the library said. "He now travels the world sharing his experiences in what he calls his mission to the repatriation of America."

Torrillo will speak at the library, 101 Washington St., Toms River, with the event beginning at 6 p.m.

"The Ocean County Library Foundation is proud and excited to bring Joe Torrillo to the library to discuss his experiences on 9/11 as a lieutenant in the New York City Fire Department," said Michael Beck, president of the Ocean County Library. "We cannot wait to hear his inspirational story of hope and survival."
