NJ Woman Pulled From Burning Mobile Home

The woman was hospitalized after the fire which was caused by lithium-ion batteries, authorities said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River woman is hospitalized in a burn unit after her neighbor rescued her from her burning mobile home on Monday, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

The neighbor and a firefighter also were injured in the fire on Tuyahova Boulevard, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

The fire, which was reported just before 11 a.m., has been ruled accidental, the prosecutor's office said.

First responders arrived to find the neighbor had rescued the woman from the home, the prosecutor's office said. She was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Burn Center in Philadelphia, where she was listed as stable on Tuesday, authorities said.

The neighbor was treated at Community Medical Center in Toms River and released, as was a firefighter who suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

The mobile home was deemed uninhabitable by the Toms River Building Department.

Investigators determined the fire started in a bedroom and said failure of lithium-ion batteries could not be eliminated as the cause of the fire, authorities said.
