TOMS RIVER, NJ — Nine people were charged with driving under the influence as a result of a drunken driving checkpoint set up on Route 37 by the New Jersey State Police on Saturday.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said the checkpoint was in place from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. in front of Pisces Seafood Restaurant on the westbound side of Route 37, just off the J. Stanley Tunney Bridge from Seaside Heights.

The checkpoint saw 400 vehicles during the 5 hours, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor's office. In addition to the nine charged with DUI, one person who was wanted on an arrest warrant was taken into custody as well, he said.
