Masked Toms River Bank Robber Claimed He Had A Gun: Police

He was covered up and had his face hidden, but police are hoping some of the items provide clues to his identity.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River police are searching for a man they say claimed he was armed with a weapon as he robbed a Route 37 bank on Thursday morning,

Police were called to the Bank of America at Bananier Drive and Route 37 about 10:15 a.m., said Jillian Messina, media specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

Employees told police the man walked in the bank and demanded money from the teller, stating he had a gun. No weapon was shown.

The man suspect left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, Messina said.

He was described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, medium build, wearing a gray Polo hooded sweatshirt, gray and black gloves, a tan baseball hat and sunglasses, with camouflage bandana over his face. He was carrying a leopard print bag (see it below).

The Toms River Police Detective Bureau, Ocean County Crime Scene Investigation and Berkeley Township police responded, she said.
