From saucers to superheroes and anything in between, the subject matter is your selection !!! Utilize your own photo reference material, or borrow from the instructor. This class is for teens who enjoy making art but need guidance with drawing skills, use of materials, color choices and composition. The principles of design, composition, value are learned using the traditional art materials of various pencils, watercolor, acrylic and pastel… or a combination of medium. Students should bring their own materials and their creativity, with a willingness to experiment with new ideas and/or new materials. If a beginner artist, bring a sketch pad (10×12), drawing pencils and a kneaded rubber eraser. To encourage growth as an artist, it is helpful to this instructor if for the first few sessions, students bring in a few samples of their art, to initiate a discussion about their learning goals.

Join the Mathis House for a complimentary tea club meeting. The Mathis House Tea Room's Women's Empowerment Meeting will work together on dyeing silk Easter Eggs. We are going to blow the eggs out and then wrap them in silk and dye them. Afterward, we are going to plant our Medicinal Tea Garden starter plants for the outdoor garden. If you have gardening gloves, bring them and wear comfortable shoes and clothes. The Innkeeper will prepare a variety of spring teas, and samples of gourmet soups will be served alongside appetizers. The all new Cape May Renaissance Faire brings the days of yore and times of wonder to Cape May.

Hear ye, Hear ye! Prepare to step back in time as the Cape May Renaissance Faire announces its grand opening, and transforms the Cape May County 4-H Fairgrounds into a bustling festival, May 2 &amp; 3, 2026. The new event promises immersive and whimsical fun, fantasy, music, crafts, food and drink; providing a unique escape for families and the young at heart.&nbsp;

The Cape May Renaissance Faire aims to bring the rich traditions of medieval-era entertainment to the local community, blending historical flair with fantastical fun. Attendees can try their hand at archery and axe throwing, shop with various artisanal vendors, or watch the many entertaining performances on 4 stages. Patrons are encouraged to dress in clothing of the bygone area, as the mythical character they wish to be, or just come as they are.

May is the month for "Mom's" at the Mathis House Tearoom. The Mother's Day Victorian Afternoon Tea is available daily from Tuesday to Sunday. Mid-week seating starts at 11 AM, and teatimes are held by reservation every hour on the hour, with the last seating at 3 PM. Weekend seating times are 11 AM and 3 PM. The Victorian Afternoon Tea includes a choice of soup, a seasonal salad, a warm scone with clotted cream, lemon curd, and preserves, a variety of five tea sandwiches, and a plate of petite desserts with a pot of gourmet tea per person.
