Celebrate Earth Day Near Toms River: Monday Manual

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Welcome to the April 18 edition of Monday Manual, where we highlight events coming up during the week in Toms River.
There is an Earth Day celebration on tap in Island Heights on Saturday. It's hosted by the Island Heights Environmental Commission and will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wanamaker Field at East End Avenue. There will be information on recycling, composting and sustainability.
They also will be giving away free tree seedlings and seeds, and they are collecting used toys and textiles for recycling. There also is a townwide cleanup and bioswale planting.

In Beachwood, there will be a free tree seedling distribution on Friday at Mayo Park from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to the state Department of Environmental Protection.
Blood Drive

There is a community blood drive scheduled for Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 415 Washington St.
Appointments are suggested and can be made online at www.nybc.org/donate or by texting 732-616-8736. Walk-ins are welcome if social distancing can be maintained.
Schools on Spring Break
The Toms River Regional Schools are closed this week for Spring Break, but high school sports competitions are on the schedule all week, so expect to see some activity at the schools.
Planning Board Meeting
There is a Planning Board meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Town Hall. The agenda had not yet been posted.
