Does moving have your head spinning?
I wrote this article to help people adapt to an unpleasant event... moving.

Moving to a new house can be a horror for some folks. For me, it has taken a bit of time to adjust to what is about to happen. I have only ever lived in New Jersey, so, to move all the way to South Carolina is more than a hop skip and jump for my head. I was thinking about every job I have ever held here and all the friends I made at college. There is a famous quote all good things come to an end. Please for the love of happiness do not make that the quote that becomes your viewpoint on life.
Moving is a new adventure, yes it is a lot of change all of the sudden and you are forced to rapidly adapt to the new arena. Please do not let that aspect scare you. Everyone should always, " keep moving forward" ( Monmouth University's slogan 2012-2015); letting your self dwell on the fact that the future will be nothing like the past is a depressive mind set to just let go of. Say goodbye and watch it flow down the river bank of consciousness.
We are all human and adapt to change differently. I really do not care how emotional you think you are. There is a house moving warrior inside you!

Think of the move in terms of a pro and con list using math symbols:
- ≤ less than or equal to
- ≥ greater than or equal to
This approach helped me realize the things I would miss wouldn't be the death of me and my friends can always be visited. They are not the type of Facebook de-frienders millennials have nightmares about. For every thing you leave behind there is something equal to or better where your moving ( Old House vs. New House).

There is also Newton's third law to think about with every action there is an equal or opposite reaction. So, using positive thoughts think about the move. If we are moving that means (fill in the blank)... which is a great opportunity that I did not have before. Another one to try is if we are moving ( fill in the blank) this will no longer be here and I will be fine with it. Repeat it verbatim with everything that has come to your mind. It helped me, I was able to see by the emotion I carried with each new fill in the blank word I said how to approach myself about it. Most things I thought I was worried about I was not in fact worried about.
Another math concept, probability says there is always the chance that the newer situation can be better. However , why rely on chance when you can single handedly make the entire experience be fun. Yes, there is the chance that things could suck. That is definitely entirely up to you though. Everything could always be terrible if you keep a bad temperate and attitude about every situation you encounter in life. Make moving houses that much easier, take a breath and say I can make this rock!
Outside of your worries, there is the physicality of moving. You pace your room thinking to yourself, oh no! this all has to be boxed, labeled and carefully sealed. So, say your not the owner of a petite college dorm size room. The dismantling of your room takes more than a day. Never underestimate how long it takes to box your room as well as all the accompanying rooms. The last you want is for it to be closing day and for your butt to be stuck shuffling around till 4am trying to finish packing everything up.
Remember stay positive and you will make all the right moves!
Best,
Victoria
