Kops To Kouple In $800 K-Cups Kaper In Ortley: Drink Up

TOMS RIVER, NJ — (Updated, 3:30 p.m.) Toms River police said tips have been pouring in on Friday following their request for help in identifying a couple they say stole nearly $800 worth of Keurig K-Cups from the Ortley Beach Acme on Wednesday.

"Tick-Tock Tick-Tock," wrote Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department, on the department's Facebook page. "That is the sound of time running out for these two. Within 30 minutes of our original media release with partnering news agencies and Facebook posts, the tips came flooding in."

"Here is a bit of friendly advice for the highly caffeinated couple. You better enjoy your $770 worth of stolen coffee because I have a feeling we will be seeing you before you have time to drink it all. P.S. - we only serve Decaf in our jail so you better drink up while you still can," he wrote.

The manager of the Acme grocery store called police Wednesday and told Officer Andrew Gannon that two suspects — a man and a woman seen in the photos above — had been seen on video surveillance taking seven boxes of the K-Cups. The boxes are valued at $110 each, Stocco said.

The two left the store and fled before they could be apprehended, Stocco said.
