DWI Stop Leads To Seaside Heights Woman's Arrest In Vehicle Burglaries

A Seaside Heights woman has been charged with burglary and theft after a DWI stop led to the discovery of a number of items stolen from unlocked vehicles in Wall Township, Wall police said Monday.
Colleen Kamil, 30, of Seaside Heights, was pulled over for failure to maintain her lane while westbound on Allaire Road at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 18, Wall Lt. Pete Lokerson said. She was then arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated by Sgt. Mile Shanklin and Patrolwoman Megan Alexander, he said.
Subsequent to her arrest and impound of her vehicle, a number of items were seen inside the vehicle that did not belong to Kamil or her passenger, Maurice Peace, 29, of Asbury Park, including a purse, various credit cards and electronics, Lokerson said.

A further investigation by the Wall Police revealed that just prior to her DWI arrest, Kamil and Peace had entered multiple unlocked vehicles in the north end of the Wall, stealing various property, including vehicles on Tally Ho Drive, Manor Drive, Foxfield Circle, Hunters Lane and Pacific Avenue, Lokerson said.
Kamil was charged with DWI, burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary and theft, processed at Wall Police headquarters and released, he said.

Peace was charged with burglary, theft, conspiracy to commit burglary and theft, and receiving stolen property. He is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institute in lieu of $25,000 bail, according to MCCI records.
The investigation and arrests were conducted by Shanklin, Alexander, Patrolman Jason Kelly, Detective Michael Steitz and Detective Dan Mason, he said.
