E-Bicyclist Dies After Route 37 Crash In Toms River
Authorities say the man turned in front of an oncoming vehicle.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — An Ocean County man was killed Wednesday morning when he was hit by an SUV while riding an electric bicycle along Route 37, Toms River police said.
The 33-year-old Little Egg Harbor man was riding west on Route 37 on the westbound shoulder about 8 a.m. when he made a sudden left turn and was hit in the center lane by an SUV, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.
The man's name was being withheld pending notification of family, she said.

The crash happened near the intersection of River Drive, and the driver of the SUV stayed at the scene, Messina said.
The bicyclist suffered severe injuries and was taken to Community Medical Center by Toms River EMS, where he was pronounced dead.

Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Cpl. Robert Westfall is investigating.
Also assisting at the scene were the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Hatzalah Volunteer EMS.
