Eat Barbecue, Help Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Department

The annual barbecue is one of the company's biggest fundraisers; it includes fire truck rides, kids' activities and much more.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — If you love barbecued chicken and you love to help firefighters, the Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Department has an event for you.

The fire department's annual chicken barbecue is scheduled for Saturday, July 15, from noon to 6 p.m. at the firehouse, 40 Clayton Ave. in Toms River.

The barbecue has many activities for kids, including free fire truck rides, as well as a 50-50 raffle and gift auction, and live entertainment by Shorty Long and the Jersey Horns from 3 to 6 p.m.

Chicken dinners are just $10 and hot dog dinners are $7. The meals include potato salad, corn, watermelon and two drinks, with a choice of beer (for those 21 and over), water or soda. To-go orders are available as well.
