Ex-Toms River Scout Treasurer Indicted In $4,500 Theft From Troop
Authorities allege he took the money via ATM withdrawals from the Cub Scout pack.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The former treasurer of a Toms River Cub Scout troop has been indicted in the theft of more than $4,500 from the troop, the Ocean County prosecutor's office said.
Louis Freund, 52, of Toms River, was indicted on a charge of theft by unlawful taking, Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said. He was arrested in October 2018.
The prosecutor’s office and Toms River police started investigated after received a tip that Freund, the treasurer of Cub Scout Pack 57 in Toms River, was using the pack's account for personal expenditures.

A subsequent grand jury subpoena served upon TD Bank revealed 16 ATM withdrawals totaling approximately $3,850 and numerous purchases from various retailers that were not for the benefit if Cub Scout Pack 57 totaling approximately $695.
“The parents and kids that volunteer their time for an organization such as the Boy Scouts deserve better than this” Prosecutor Billhimer said.
