UPDATE: 1 Dead, 2 Others Hurt In Three-Car Head-On Crash In Toms River: Police

Whitesville Road remains closed; plan extra travel time for heavy traffic on Route 9, police said.

Updated, 10:10 a.m.: Toms River, NJ — One person has died and two others have been injured in a three-car crash on Whitesville Road Thursday morning, Toms River police said.

Toms River Police Department spokesman Ralph Stocco said the head-on crash occurred on Whitesville Road at Medjay Lane. All three drivers were the lone occupants of their cars, he said.

One of the injured drivers has serious injuries, Stocco said, while the other driver's injuries were minor. Police have not released any names or identifying information on the drivers pending notification of families.

Whitesville Road remains closed and traffic will continue to be detoured at Cox Cro Road and Riverwood Drive until at least 11 a.m. if not longer. Traffic on Route 9 is crawling, readers have said, so anyone heading north through the area is urged to consider other routes and plan extra travel time.

Toms River police are on the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident Thursday morning and are asking motorists to avoid the area.

Whitesville Road is closed between Riverwood Drive and Cox Cro Road due to the crash, Toms River police said via Nixle alert.

The road will remain closed until at least 11 a.m., the alert said.

The closure is causing heavy traffic on Route 9, police said, as traffic is detoured around the area.

Traffic is being detoured off Whitesville Road at Riverwood Drive and at Cox Cro Road on Thursday, July 14, due to a fatal crash at Medjay Lane, police said.
