Fire Destroys Home At Toms River Mobile Home Park

A caller reported someone may have been inside the home, but authorities were still investigating, Toms River police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Authorities are investigating after a fire destroyed a home in a Route 9 mobile home park on Thursday afternoon.

The fire, at Roberts Mobile Home Park, 2250 Route 9, was reported about 3 p.m., said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

The caller told police they tried to alert the homeowner to the fire, because the caller believed he was still inside the home, Messina said.

When Toms River police arrived they tried to go into the home and check it for the homeowner, but it was fully engulfed and they were driven back by the heavy smoke and intense flames, Messina said.

Toms River's fire companies responded and extinguished the fire, she said. Further details were not immediately available as the investigation was continuing.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention were investigating, she said.
