PRESS RELEASE October 11, 2016
Christ Episcopal Church (CEC) and LGBTQ Safezone jointly announce “Human Colors: A LGBTQ Shorts Film Festival,” a new event in our joint LGBTQ outreach initiative. LGBTQ Safezone is the film festival’s host and coordinator.
Human Colors will be presented at 7:00 PM, Saturday October 15, 2016 at
Christ Episcopal Church, 415 Washington Street, Toms River, NJ 08753.
The LGBTQ community is invited as are their friends, supporters, and those interested in gaining insights into LGBTQ life and issues.
The event’s films are entertaining and heart-rendering. Five acclaimed, prize winning short films will be screened: “Families Are Forever, ” “A Trip To Prague,” “Love Wins,” and “What Do You Know?” and “Courage Doesn’t Have To Ask.”
Attending is John Columbus, founder and Director Emeritus of the Black Maria Film Festival, who curated the selection of the films. Also, Robin Kampf, director of"Love Wins," will attend the screening showcase and dialog with the audience.
Hospitality is included in the program/ light refreshments during Intermission.
Those attending are asked to donate a can(s) of food for the hungry.
A drive behind Human Colors is to help bridge our LGBTQ brothers and sisters -individuals, couples and families--with the broader mainstream communities residing in and beyond Toms River and Ocean County.
While Christ Episcopal Church’s longtime policy and dedicated practice is to warmly welcome all LGBTQ people, Human Colors is our newest welcome mat to those who are still anxious about entering houses of faith; to those who have stayed away for fear of being ostracized.
Human Colors offers a safe , pleasant way to try out and ease into
our church, and to explore LGBTQ Safezone, Toms River’s and Ocean County’s
premier LGBTQ support organization. LGBTQ Safezone is not a religious organization but secular, and runs autonomously by itself. CEC lends us space yet opens its doors to those who wish to visit an inclusive community, same sex unions, and teaches that families come in all forms.
Presenting Human Colors demonstrates outright that all who enter CEC’s doors
are complete equals, and that everyone is invited to participate in all CEC events and activities , including religious education for adults and children.
Our ongoing LGBTQ outreach initiative lays bare that every person entering
our doors and Sanctuary will be honored and valued in all imaginable respects.
CEC expects current church members and Worship attendees will attend and
mingle , thus learning from one another, creating new relationships and further demystifying related faith and social questions, fears and issues.
Christ Episcopal Church, which recently celebrated our 150th anniversary, is dedicated to inclusivity and social justice.
CEC is led by The Rev. Joan M. Pettit Mason, Rector.
