FOOTBALL: Donovan Catholic Opens With A Victory

The Griffins win a high-scoring affair over the Pinelands Wildcats on the road in Little Egg Harbor.

Donovan Catholic got the 2015 high school football season off on the right foot, as David Calderon scored two touchdowns, including the game-winner, in a 39-33 victory over Pinelands Regional in Little Egg Harbor.

Calderon ran in from 14 yards out for the winning touchdown and then the Griffins held off the Wildcats’ last attempt to score in the Shore Conference Class B South matchup, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Donovan finished winless last season after its lone victory was taken away and awarded as forfeit due to an issue with a transfer student. But with veteran players, including Calderon, who’s a senior, the Griffins are looking for a positive season.

Calderon had plenty of help Friday night. Quarterback Teddy Golubowski rushed for a pair of short-yardage touchdowns and threw a 60-yard pass for a third touchdown as the Griffins had more than 300 yards of offense and did not turn the ball over.

The defense was able to stop the Wildcats’ final effort to clinch the victory for Donovan Catholic.
