Forget Snow, Think Baseball: Toms River Film To Premiere April 8

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Snow, schmow ... let's talk about baseball. Toms River baseball, to be exact.

If you love baseball and love Toms River, come out on April 8 for the debut of "South Baseball: The Spirit of Winning," the documentary on Toms River South baseball coach Ken Frank. will have its premiere showing on Sunday, April 8 at the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts on the campus of Ocean County College.

Tickets are on sale now through the Grunin Center.

The film is result of more than two years of work by independent filmmaker Sandra Levine, a Toms River native who also produced "Heartbreak & Healing After Sandy," the documentary on the devastation wrought by Superstorm Sandy and some of the initial work to rebuild from the storm.

Levine, who became intrigued with the success of Frank, the winningest baseball coach in New Jersey, quickly realized while researching the film how much Toms River in general loves the sport, and how the town's love is interwoven with the success of the South team. Included in the documentary is an interview with Todd Frazier, the New York Mets third baseman who became nationally known as a Little League star with the 1998 World Champion Toms River East American all-star team.

Tickets for the premiere, which is at 2 p.m. at the Grunin Center, are $5, and Levine said there will be a reception immediately after the screening with refreshments provided by Jersey Mike's Toms River, and Perlmutter Family ShopRites. The reception will be open to all, she said.
