TOMS RIVER, NJ — Talk of severe cuts that could mean the elimination of sports, clubs and other extracurricular activities has many people planning to attend Wednesday night's Toms River Regional Board of Education meeting.
If you have never been to a school board meeting in Toms River, here's how the meeting works and what you need to know before you go:
In an update at 2:15 p.m., the district announced the meeting will be held in the auditorium at Toms River High School North, due to the anticipated attendance.

The board has an executive session, where litigation and personnel matters will be discussed, set for 6 p.m. The regular business portion of the meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The agenda for the meeting is available online, along with other documents that give more detail about the items the board is scheduled to consider. Much of the material covered in these documents was discussed at the board's committee meetings.

There will be presentations by students, by Superintendent David Healy and board members will read the committee meeting reports, which summarize the discussions held last week.
There are two public comment segments. The first is strictly to address matters on the agenda (check out the agenda here) such as bills, policies, and personnel moves.
The second segment is where the board will welcome comment from the audience on issues including the potential budget cuts that have been raised as the district fights for a restoration of state school funding or at the very least, a halt to the cuts.
The Toms River business community has gotten involved, with the Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce publicly announcing its intention to help in the fight. And 10th District legislators Sen. James Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and Dave Wolfe have actively fought to get the aid restored, not only to Toms River but to Brick Township and other districts that are taking cuts under S2, the law that strips so-called "adjustment aid" from the districts.
