Grand Opening Ceremony Saturday for Traco Theater

Official ribbon cutting with Mayor

An addition of live entertainment and unique movies has found its home in downtown Toms River, and the ceremonial ribbon cutting on the Traco Theater will help make it official.

The grand opening of the Washington Street theater is scheduled for 6 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 3. However, the event almost marks one month since the Traco opened.

Nov. 4, the theater nearly sold out for its first night, featuring a comedy show in the 70-seat .

The Friday night performance left the streets of downtown Toms River packed as well. The idea behind the resurrected Traco was to again see the neighborhood become a destination for nighttime entertainment and dining, instead of emptying out as government services clear out at 5 p.m.

, known as the Toms River Amusement Company, was open from 1912 to 1952.  In its current state, which is a couple doors down from the original location of the Traco, is a state-of-the-art theater that holds seating for 70 people. There are plush chairs, a deluxe sound system, a digital motion picture projection system plus screen, a stage and green room.

The theater is connected to the neighboring by doorway as part of the Dessert and a Show promotion the businesses are running.
