Habitat for Humanity receives $12,500 from Thrivent Financial

Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial partner to help improve the lives of five Ocean County families.

TOMS RIVER, NJ (December 13, 2017) – This year, Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity partnered with Thrivent Financial to support Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, an ongoing partnership between Habitat and Thrivent Financial, which helps families in the U.S. and across the globe obtain strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

Locally, the program funded the repair of five homes in Ocean County through the Thrivent Builds Repairs program, which allows Habitat to make repairs to existing homes in partnership with families who lack the resources or ability to make the repairs themselves. Northern Ocean Habitat was one of few Habitat for Humanity affiliates in New Jersey chosen to receive funding from Thrivent Financial this year.

Most recently, Northern Ocean Habitat completed repair work for a woman, Madeline, who resides in Whiting, New Jersey. Madeline’s windows were not keeping her home insulated and as a result, her oil and electric bills soared. With winter steadily approaching, Madeline reached out to Northern Ocean Habitat for help. Students from Manchester Township High School and Point Pleasant Beach High School volunteered and replaced 15 windows for Madeline; now, she will enjoy the holiday season in a warm home. “The peace of mind that I have and knowing that it’s going to be a nice winter even if there’s ten feet of snow out there is a great feeling,” said Madeline.

“It is inspiring to work alongside Habitat families, Thrivent members and other volunteers to build and repair homes,” said Brian McCaskill, a Financial Consultant with Thrivent Financial. “Sharing our time and talents to live generously and strengthen our community is a great way to get to know our neighbors and make a real difference.”

Since the partnership’s inception in 2005, and through 2016, Thrivent Financial and its members have committed more than $226 million and more than 5 million volunteer hours around the world. Thrivent Financial has committed nearly $14 million to support the 2017 partnership, which will be used to partner with families and mobilize volunteers throughout the U.S. and across the globe. Northern Ocean Habitat received $12,500 in funding from Thrivent Financial in 2017. To date, Thrivent has funded 17 Habitat repairs in northern Ocean County.
