Harrogate Celebrates Three Decades of Senior Living Excellence
It's 30 and Counting for Ocean County's Original Life Care Retirement Community

In 1988, Auntie Anne’s began selling pretzels, Outback Steakhouse forever changed the way we eat onions, and, in Ocean County, retirement living would never be the same. That summer, Harrogate opened its doors to area seniors, offering retirement living not previously available. The Life Care model, now common across the country, gave Harrogate’s first residents the peace of mind that they could live independently, while knowing they’d always have care if they needed it.
“When Harrogate opened, the Life Care model simply wasn’t available here in Ocean County, so we met a real need,” said Charles Benjamin, Harrogate’s executive director. “When you think about the success of the business model and the fact that Harrogate helped bring that model to this part of New Jersey, you realize how important we’ve been to area seniors. It’s truly humbling.”
A couple of 30th anniversary events, including a barbecue and a gala, will be held in late July.
