For Madison Godesky, a 34-year-old biomedical engineer, planning was second nature. For the birth of her first child, she chose a team-based OB/GYN practice, embraced hypnobirthing techniques, and created a detailed birth plan for an unmedicated delivery. But what happens when the baby doesn’t follow the plan?

The team of doctors, nurses, and midwives at Hackensack Meridian Health Ocean University Medical Center who supported Madison were fully prepared to support her hypnobirthing goals. An unexpected challenge arose during labor: the baby was in a "sunny side up" position, making delivery more difficult and putting Madison's birth plan at risk.

How did the team pivot to keep both mom and baby safe while still honoring her wishes? According to Susan Passarella, D.O., it required creativity, trust, and a technique known as "spinning babies." Discover the turning point in Madison's labor and the specific position that changed everything.
