IBEW Local 1820 feeds Four families in Ocean County

On Tuesday, November 22nd, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1820 delivered Thanksgiving meals to families in need. As part of their effort to give back to the community, the local union adopted three families in Morris County, four families in Ocean County and six families in Monmouth.

This was the first time that the union had undertaken such an event. Carrying boxes full of canned goods, a bag of potatoes, and all of the fixings to make a great Thanksgiving dinner, the volunteers delivered the boxes with a message wishing each family a Happy Thanksgiving. According to Business Manager Jeffery Bollermann, the effort was undertaken by the unions Next Gen committee. The Next Gen committee is made up of young members within the union. “At this time of year, it is so important to give thanks and to give back to those in need,” said Bollermann. “Thanks to our union we have enough this Thanksgiving, so by feeding these 13 families we are paying it forward.”

While the effort fed 13 families this year, Bollermann says that they would like to double that next year and feed 26 families.

IBEW Local 1820 works at New Jersey Natural Gas and New Jersey Home Services based in Wall New Jersey.
