JELLYFISH
From the state Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Jellyspotters
The state Department of Environmental Protection's clinging jellyfish map shows monitoring but there do not appear to be any new samples since early July searching for the dime-sized clinging jellyfish.
Paul Bologna, biologist at Montclair State University and an expert on New Jersey's jellyfish, said in a recent post in the New Jersey Jellyspotters group that the clinging jellyfish are gone for the season but bay nettles are out in force in many bays and lagoons up and down the state.
Bay nettles sting but their sting is not as powerful as that of a clinging jellyfish. Read more: Jellyfish Crowding NJ's Bays: What To Know About Sea And Bay Nettles
