Jersey Shore Roller Girls Home Bout!
The Jersey Shore Roller Girls will be hosting an exciting intra-league bout on Saturday, May 7th, 2016, at Winding River Skating Center.
Toms River — The Jersey Shore Roller Girls (JSRG), the Shore’s oldest women’s flat track roller derby league, will be hosting an exciting intra-league bout on Saturday, May 7th, 2016, at their new home, the Winding River Skating Center in Toms River, NJ.
JSRG will bring hard-hitting, fast-paced roller derby action to Winding River Skating Center on May 7th when they host a Blue vs. White intra-league bout. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., and the bout will start at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 adults/$6 kids in advance, and $12 adults/$8 kids at the door. Children under 6 are free.
About Jersey Shore Roller Girls
JSRG is the Shore’s oldest all-women, flat track roller derby league, with members from Central NJ and the Shore area. The league consists of approximately 40 skaters, and has two traveling teams, the JSRG All-Stars, and the B-team, the JSRG Beatdown.

About Roller Derby
Roller derby has experienced a revival in the past few years, with almost 1500 teams around the world. It is a full-contact sport played in traditional quad roller skates on a flat surface, such as a the floor of a roller rink.
Roller derby games are called bouts, which are divided into two 30-minute periods. Each period consists of a number of jams, which can last up to two minutes.
In a jam, each team puts five players on the track: four blockers and a jammer. The jammers are the point-scorers, and attempt to earn points by lapping the pack and successfully passing the opposing team’s blockers. The blockers’ main objective is to impede the progress of the opposite team’s jammer through the pack. Blockers can use shoulder and hip checks, as well as booty blocks, but penalties are given to skaters who block illegally, behave in an unsportsmanlike manner, or otherwise break the rules.
Roller derby is a true contact sport; while bouts may be tough and action-packed, they are family-friendly and enjoyable for fans of all ages.
