For over 25 years, the Knights of Columbus, council 4969, Toms River, has carried out a charitable project known as the Christmas Food Basket Program. This program provides food for local families in need at Christmas time and is just one of the many charitable programs that The Knights are involved in. On Saturday, December 15th, well over 100 local families will receive boxes of various food items that will provide them with not only a Christmas dinner but meals for many days after.

Throughout the year the Knights conduct several fund-raising activities and receive donations from numerous local individuals and businesses. Shop Rite of Toms River (Rt. 166), Bey Lea Dairy, St. Josephs Food Pantry and student groups from Int. North and Beachwood Elementary are just a few of this year’s contributors. Without the generosity and support from our community this program would not be possible.

On Friday night, the 14th, organizations including the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and students from St Joseph’s Elementary and Donovan Catholic High School will join members of the Knights and their families packing the boxes so they will be ready for delivery early the next morning by a group of well received Knights.

If you would like to volunteer or make a donation you can do so by contacting: Knights of Columbus Council 4969, 113 Tennyson Ave, Toms River, NJ 08753, 732-929-9811.

“Charity is the basic principle of the Knights of Columbus, and there is no other time of the year that compares to the charitable giving that makes Christmas a little happier for families in need.” (Kevin Delmonico, PGK, Chairman, Food Basket Program)
