K's Catnip Corner Cat Lounge Invites Book Lovers To Check Out Silent Book Club Toms River Chapter

K’s Catnip Corner Cat Lounge is excited to announce they will be hosting the Silent Book Club Toms River Chapter.

What is K's Catnip Corner?

K's Catnip Corner Cat Lounge offers a unique community experience. Presented by K's Kitten Rescue, K's Catnip Corner is currently the only cat lounge in Ocean County. It is a free-roaming adoptable cat and kitten lounge where people can come to relax and enjoy feline companionship. Lounge visitors play a big part in the socialization of the rescue's kittens, which helps prepare the kittens for life in their furever homes. The cat lounge provides a perfect place for those who are unable to have cats to still be able to interact with them. It’s also a perfect place to go for those who work from home and simply need a break or change of scenery.

In addition to offering open lounge hours, K’s Catnip Corner Cat Lounge also offers many affordable activities and events. K's Catnip Corner Cat Lounge is also a purrfect venue for private parties and gatherings of approximately 20 people.

What is a Silent Book Club?

K's has known for some time that they wanted to host a book club at the cat lounge. The biggest obstacle K's encountered in starting a book club was deciding what book everyone wanted to read. A Silent Book Club solves that challenge.

A Silent Book Club is a group of people that share a love of reading. Unlike a more traditional book club, a Silent Book Club removes the pressure of having to pick a book that everyone has to read. With a Silent Book Club, people join together to read at the same time in the same place, while reading whatever book they like. There's no pressure to finish by a certain date and no pressure to answer questions. Everyone brings their own book. Books of any type are welcome, including but not limited to print books, ebooks, graphic novels and textbooks. Guests are welcome to use the lounge's wifi to browse their phone or laptop, or to read from a kindle or tablet.

Silent Book Club meetings are generally about two hours in length. Rescue kittens are present in the cat lounge during the meetings. For the first 30 minutes of a Silent Book Club meeting people can chat. Then there is a one-hour block of time for everyone to read the material of their own choosing while others are doing the same. After the hour is up, there is an additional block of 30 minutes where people can chat, exchange books, or continue reading if they haven't chosen to head out.

Silent Book Club Toms River hosted by K's Catnip Corner Cat Lounge is an inclusive space where people ages 16 and up with a shared love of books can connect.

Silent Book Club Toms River gatherings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month, from 6:30 to 8:30pm. A typical meeting will be structured as follows:

6:00 - 6:30pm - People arrive and share what they're reading
6:30 - 7:30pm - Quiet reading hour
7:30 - 8:00pm - Optional socializing, optional book swap, or just keep reading

The first three meetings of the Silent Book Club Toms River chapter have been scheduled for:

• November 11, 2026
• December 9, 2026
• January 13, 2027

Silent Book Club meetings are free to attend. Due to limited space people wishing to attend a Silent Book Club meeting are asked to RSVP in advance. Should the group find the need for more space a second meeting per month can be considered.

While Silent Book Club is free, as nonprofit K's Kitten Rescue welcomes donations of any amount as they are completely funded by donations and community support.
