Lakewood BlueClaws Host Sexual Assault Awareness Event Saturday

NJ First Lady Tammy Snyder Murphy will speak about sexual assault and there will be resources for victims.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — The Lakewood BlueClaws will be taking on the serious subject of sexual assault on Saturday as they host an awareness event with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

The event will include New Jersey First Lady Tammy Snyder Murphy, who is a sexual assault survivor; she will speak to those in attendance, the BlueClaws and the prosecutor's office announced.

Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato will be joined by victims of sexual assault and assault response professionals to throw out the first pitch. The event is not only an effort to raise awareness of the sexual assault issue, but more importantly to convince victims to report and seek help from a much improved response/support network, officials said.

Murphy will be speaking before the game; the first pitch for the game against the Kannapolis Intimidators is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. Gates open at the stadium at 3 p.m. and all attendees are urged to wear teal in support of the event.

There will be sexual assault response professionals on hand to speak with at the event, officials said.

Game tickets are $13 for adults and $10 for children and seniors.
