Lane Shift On Route 166 Coming Wednesday Night In Toms River

Traffic will be shifted while work continues on the median barrier between the north and south lanes.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The next phase of construction on Route 166 is about to get underway and it will result in a shift of the travel lanes, state officials said.

The state Department of Transportation said traffic will be shifted on the road starting about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, as the contractor, New Prince Concrete, prepares to construct a median barrier curb between the newly expanded northbound and southbound lanes between Route 37 and Highland Parkway.

The lane shift is expected to be in place by 6 a.m. Thursday and is expected to be in place until later this summer.

The $11.7 million state project aims to improve safety at the intersection and will include a new through lane on Route 166 northbound and southbound, as well as light improvements and drainage improvements. A retaining wall along the west side of Route 166 adjacent to the Crossroads Center shopping center is being built as well. The project is expected to be completed at the end of this year.
