Letter: Help Support the Police Unity Tour

Bicycle tour will honor the memory of fallen officers

Dear Friend,

On May 9, myself and four other members of the Manchester Township Police Department will join hundreds of law enforcement officers from around the country who will bicycle along varying routes, each over 300 miles to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (NLEOM) in Washington, D.C. This year, the Police Unity Tour Inc., Chapter II, will have 200 police officers representing various agencies from New Jersey, Maryland, Missouri, Maine and New Hampshire.

Our route will take us from southern New Jersey into Delaware and Maryland and ultimately onto Washington D.C., where on May 13 a candlelight vigil will be held at the memorial. On that night, the names of the officers who have died in the line of duty in 2011 will be read before a crowd of thousands.

The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness about the police officers that have died in the line of duty. Our motto is, “We Ride For Those Who Died.”

The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum. Since its inception in 1997, the Police Unity Tour has raised over $7 million to support the NLEOM, with $1.3 million raised during last year’s Tour.

To reach our goal, each officer riding in the tour must raise a minimum of $1,700.

It is because of the incredible support of our friends, family and colleagues that we are able to participate in the tour this year and not let the heroes who have died in the line of duty be forgotten.

We are asking for your financial support to allow us to ride in the Police Unity Tour. The Police Unity Tour, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Tax ID No. 20-8960869.

Checks can be made payable to: Police Unity Tour, Inc. Chapter II. All checks should be sent to: Chief Brian Klimakowski, Manchester Township Police, 1 Colonial Drive, Manchester NJ, 08759.

It would be helpful if your donation was received before April 1.

Thank you so very much for your consideration in supporting the Police Unity Tour.

Sincerely,

Chief Brian J. Klimakowski
