Literacy Read a thon

Literacy New Jersey - Ocean County Programs is hosting a Read a thon on Tuesday, September 8th, from 10 am to 2 pm.

Members of the public are invited to join Toms River Mayor Thomas Kelaher, Beachwood Mayor Ronald Roma, Freeholder Joseph Vicari and other community leaders at a Readathon for Adult Literacy being held at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Public Library on Tuesday, September 8.

The event is sponsored by Literacy New Jersey - Ocean County Programs to kick off September as Adult Literacy Awareness Month in Ocean County. The organization is dedicated to helping adults in Ocean County who cannot read at a fifth grade level improve their skills through individual tutoring and conversation classes.

Members of the Literacy New Jersey and Ocean County community will read a brief selection (5 minutes) from their favorite book. Readings will be done continuously from 10:10 am to 1:50 pm, with children’s books featured in the first hour. The general public is welcome to join the fun. Literacy New Jersey - Ocean County Programs is committed to improving the literacy skills of individuals, aged 18 and older, in Ocean County, New Jersey. We recruit, train and support a network of tutors who provide confidential, quality instruction to Ocean County adults. We currently provide services that include one-on-one and conversation classes for Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adults in Ocean County. We are a non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization.
