Man, 22, Stabbed 'Multiple Times' Found Lying In Street In Seaside Park: Prosecutor

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man is being held in the Ocean County Jail in connection with a stabbing in Seaside Park early Tuesday morning, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

Christopher W. Mawson, 28, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Seaside Park police received a 911 call about 1 a.m. on Tuesday about a man lying in the street on North Ocean Avenue and found a 22-year-old man with multiple stab wounds, Billhimer said.

The man is listed in critical but stable condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was flown for treatment, the prosecutor said.

Investigators were able to determine Mawson was responsible for the stabbing, Billhimer said, and he was taken into custody at Seaside Heights police headquarters. He was taken to Seaside Park police headquarters and processed and then taken to the county jail, where Mawson is awaiting a detention hearing, the prosecutor said.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Seaside Park Police Department and its Detective Bureau, Seaside Heights Police Department and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit collaborated on the investigation.
