Ocean County Man Shot At Vehicle On Parkway After Gas Station Argument: State Police

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Berkeley Township man has been charged with attempted homicide after a shooting on the Garden State Parkway that followed an argument at a Manchester gas station, New Jersey State Police said Wednesday.

William B. Sabo, 22, was arrested Friday at his home in connection with the shooting on Jan. 12 near exit 80 southbound on the Parkway, state police said. He is being held in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River.

The incident started with an argument at a gas station in Manchester, authorities said. The victim and Sabo left the gas station, and both were headed in the direction of the Parkway. When the victim got on the Parkway, Sabo shot at the victim's vehicle, hitting the victim in the knee, state police said.

Another person in the vehicle drove the victim to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where hospital personnel notified authorities about the shooting, state police said. The victim described the suspect, who was in a black Dodge Charger that left the area after the shooting, they said.

State police detectives and Manchester Township police were able to determine Sabo was the shooter and that he fired at the victim's vehicle from the passenger side of the Charger, state police said.

A search of Sabo's home and gray Kia Forte on Friday turned up a .40-caliber handgun, a .32-caliber revolver, two high-capacity magazines, 2.5 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and he was arrested, state police said.

Sabo was charged with attempted homicide, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon during a CDS offense, possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of CDS paraphernalia, state police said.

In addition to New Jersey State Police troopers from the Galloway Station and detectives from the Troop “D” Criminal Investigation Office, Manchester Township police, members of the State Police K9 Unit, TEAMS Unit, Berkeley Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office assisted with the investigation and arrest, state police said.
