Men Arrested In Toms River Bank Robbery Ran Home

Christoper Camargo and Leonard Larson were found at Camargo's home a short distance from the bank

Police didn’t have to go far to find two men who robbed the Santander bank on Route 37 in Toms River Wednesday and ran away on foot.

Christopher Camargo, 22, of Oakridge Parkway, Toms River, and Leonard Larson, 29, of Yardarm Court, Berkeley, were arrested within hours at Camargo’s home, just a short distance from the bank, Toms River Police Department spokesman Ralph Stocco said.

The two have been charged with robbery and are being held in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Stocco said Camargo and Larson are accused of entering the bank and demanding cash. Camargo leaped over the teller counter and took money from the drive-through cashier drawer. The pair then ran out the front door and across Route 37, headed north toward Camargo’s home.

Neither man showed a weapon during the robbery, Stocco said.

Police were alerted by the bank’s holdup alarm at 9:23 a.m., he said.

Camargo and Larson continued running into the Oak Ridge section of town, and were apprehended within hours at Camargo’s home, he said. A court-authorized search warrant was executed at Camargo’s home and recovered evidence of the crime, Stocco said.

Detectives Mark Bajada and Roger Hull were assisted by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office CSI and K-9 units.
