Ocean County's First School Closing For The March 14 Storm Is ....

Breaking: A blizzard warning was reduced to a winter storm warning for Ocean County beginning Monday night.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — While school district officials around Ocean County wait to see what the approaching winter storm will do to the county, officials in one school have made their determination about Tuesday's school day.

Donovan Catholic will be closed on Tuesday, officials for the private school announced about 2:30 p.m., becoming the first school in Ocean County to close ahead of the storm.

The National Weather Service hae issued a blizzard warning for Ocean County (it was downgraded to a winter storm warning Monday afternoon), the predictions for the snow total have been uncertain. Forecasters say the county, particularly in coastal areas, could see as little as 2 inches of snow, depending on how near the coast the rain/snow line winds up.

Some districts, such as the Toms River Regional School District, built three snow days into their school calendar. Others, including Brick, Central Regional and Manchester, did not include any snow days. The Brick Township Board of Education approved a change to the school calendar just last week to make up the snow day from January, with interim Superintendent Thomas Gialanella joking that it could change again because of the predictions at the time.

Donovan Catholic and St. Joseph's Elementary School are both operated by St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Toms River.
