Ortley Beach Water Line Survey Delayed
The work to check water service lines was delayed due to Tropical Storm Ophelia.
TOMS RIVER, NJ — Contractors for New Jersey American Water will be in the Ortley Beach section starting Saturday, Sept. 30, to assess water lines in the township, Toms River officials said.
The work was supposed to begin over the weekend but was delayed due to Tropical Storm Ophelia.
Workers with the contractor, CDM Smith, will checking the type of material that water service lines are made of as part of a project to identify and replace all lead and galvanized services line, the water company said.

Water service lines connect the water main to a home or property and can be made of copper, plastic, galvanized steel, iron, or lead.
"If we contact you or come to your door, please help by answering a few questions," the company said. "Staff will need to capture a photograph of the water service where it enters the building but will not have to turn water off to perform this inspection."

Qualified contractors will carry official company photo I.D. badges and wear logoed, high-visibility vests.
