Our Therapy Dogs Make House Calls

Caregiver Canines offering therapy dog visits to isolated seniors in the community.

Toms River, NJ (January 15,2019) Did you or someone you know have a beloved dog in the past but can no longer care for one any longer? Take heart, Caregiver CaninesⓇ can help you fill this void.

Caregiver CaninesⓇ is a free visiting therapy dog program that provides volunteers along with their certified therapy dogs to make home visits on a weekly basis to those over 60 years old as well as their caregivers. It is a program offered through the nonprofit agency Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey who have offices in Ocean and Monmouth Counties,

Caregiver CaninesⓇ therapy dogs have lots of love to give and they would love to share it with you. Addie, who is visited by therapy dog Lucy says, “having Lucy come to visit me is the highlight of my week and is the next best thing to owning my own dog.”

CVCJ provides vital assistance to seniors, the elderly disabled, veterans, individuals with dementia, and caregivers of loved ones with chronic illness to allow them to remain independent in their own homes. All services are free of charge and delivered by 1,200 volunteers to over 2,500 Ocean and Monmouth County residents over the age of 60, who no longer drive. Volunteers provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, reassuring phone calls, friendly visits, and relief for family caregivers. The Caregiver Canines® program brings certified therapy dogs to the private residences of dog-loving seniors who can no longer care for a pet.
