PA Man 'Critical' After Toms River Halloween Parade Crash: Police

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Pennsylvania man was seriously injured Wednesday night when his go-cart flipped over at the Toms River Halloween Parade, Toms River police said.

Harold Oswald, 80, of Willow Grove, PA, is listed in critical but stable condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with a skull fracture, Jillian Messina of the Toms River Police Department said Thursday.

Oswald was driving the miniature gas-powered cart along the parade route and while performing various maneuvers in the road, lost control of the cart. It tipped over and he was thrown from the cart and hit his head on the road, she said.

He was not wearing a helmet and the go-cart did not have safety belts, she said.

Ocean County Scanner News reported the accident happened near the end of the parade route, on Washington Street in front of the Ocean County Courthouse.

Messina said Toms River police are seeking video of the incident to help determine the cause of the crash.
