PA Woman Dies Of Injuries From Toms River Crash: Police

Ebony Shepherd, 34, of Johnstown, PA, was hit Friday night after she climbed over the concrete divider to cross Hooper Avenue, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Pennsylvania woman has died of injuries she suffered Friday when she was hit by a vehicle after climbing over a concrete barrier on Hooper Avenue, Toms River police said.

Ebony Shepherd, 34, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, died Saturday afternoon at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

Shepherd had been hit about 6 p.m. after she climbed over the barrier trying to cross Hooper Avenue from east to west near James Street, Messina said.

Shepherd was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River but subsequently flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center due to the severity of her injuries, Messina said.

The driver of the vehicle "exhibited no signs of impairment," Messina said. The incident remained under investigation.
