PHOTOS: A Summer's Day in April in Seaside

Families trek to Island Beach, Seaside to enjoy 80-degree days

No matter what the temperature was, it was still a Monday in April.

The locks across the amusement gates on Casino Pier and across the bath house bathrooms in Island Beach State Park bathing beach reminded an influx of visitors that even though temperatures climbed to 86 degrees on the beach, the off-season was still in effect.

There were plenty of seasonal businesses left to open, there wasn't a lifeguard or badge checker in sight, and an Ocean Terrace parking lot was $5 for the day.

Still, families enjoyed a trek to the boardwalk and beaches. And businesses open year-round saw a bump in traffic.

Kohrs staffers swirled frozen custard into sugar cones, stand operaters courted passersby with prizes, slices were slid from pizza oven onto white paper plates by boardwalk employees who said the weather brought people out, but often didn't keep them long, as the oceanfront winds kept most people from basking in the sun.

Traffic itself on the bridge was heavy, first in the early afternoon heading east and then again as everyone head home starting at 3 p.m.
