Rock The River In Toms River To Help Kids With Brain Cancer

The daylong family friendly event, scheduled for July, aims to help families of children battling brain cancer. Tickets are available now.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River group is bringing together music groups, vendors, food trucks and more in an effort to raise funds to support children with brain cancer.

The event, called Rock the River, will be held at Huddy Park on July 27. and is sponsored by the Little by Little Foundation, in partnership with Bubby’s Beanery.

The event's musical line-up, headlined by David Cook, is scheduled to include rock & roll band Cowboy Mouth from New Orleans; New York City rocker Sophia Ramos; progressive math funk collective RedRightReturn; Asbury Park funkateers Waiting on Mongo, and Toms River’s own 18th & Addison. Breakdancers, live graffiti art, a retro-style photobooth, kids entertainment and will be part of the daylong festival.

"We hope to attract more than 2,000 visitors from our region and beyond, as the goal of this family-friendly event is to raise money to support children with brain cancer in New Jersey and across the country through the Little by Little Foundation," a news release from the two organizations said.

Little by Little Foundation was created by Mike Maguire, to honor the memory of his wife, Kim, a Toms River resident who died of brain cancer in 2017 less than two years after being diagnosed with glioblastoma.

"Through the Little by Little Foundation, Kim Maguire’s giving spirit is kept alive by helping individual families in financial hardship due to childhood brain cancer treatment," the news release said.

In less than two years, more than $125,000 has been distributed directly to families in need.

Tickets to Rock the River are $35, with children under 7 getting in free, and can be purchased at Bubby’s Beanery, 44 Washington St., Toms River or online at www.universe.com/rocktheriver

The event will be held rain or shine, the organizers said.
